When I was a kid, my older brother Jon wanted to play outside more than I did. I’d be watching TV, or reading a book, and he’d want to kick around the soccer ball or ride skateboards. He’d talk me into joining him.
Now that I’m a dad, sometimes it’s me coaxing the kids outside, and sometimes it’s the other way around.

C’mon Let’s Play
Step outside, c'mon let's play
Put down your book, it's a sunny day
I just pumped fresh air into this ball.
There's berries to eat and frogs to catch
Ferries to ride and plans to hatch
Ride our bikes down to the beach
See how far our toes can reach.
Come along with me
Let yourself run free
Open up to how you're meant to be
Run fast, walk slow
Hold on, let go
We've got today
C'mon let's play
I know you don't need anyone
I know you don't have time for fun
I know you say you'd rather stay inside
But can you hear the chickadee
Chirping out a melody
See it hop from tree to grass
Now it's gone it moved too fast
Come along with me
Let yourself run free
Open up to how you're meant to be
Run fast, walk slow
Hold on, let go
We've got today
C'mon let's play
It's okay, you know
For your joy to show
Ahhhhhh, ahhhhh
You can take it slow
And then let it grow
Ahhhhhh, ahhhhh
So grab your shoes, they're on the floor
Leave your phone and shut the door
It's not to late for us to find our way.
Isn't the sky ten shades of blue?
Doesn't the air smell fresh and new?
Don't you feel a kind of spark
As we slip into the dark?
Come along with me
Let yourself run free
Open up to how you're meant to be
Run fast, walk slow
Hold on, let go
We've got today
C'mon let's play
