A song about making a change for the better — though it can be scary.
The metaphors slip easily into a frame about life after death. I can understand that interpretation, and it was in my head as I wrote the song, but I wanted to project the idea more broadly about shifting into forward gear.

Lyrics
The train is coming tomorrow so pack your bags tonight. You can leave behind your sorrow 'cause we're heading into the light. I'm scared, but I'm ready for the light. I'm scared, but I'm ready for the light. This old land don't feed us the soil is rock and clay. There's nothing here to keep us so why should we want to stay? I'm scared, but I'm ready for the light. I'm scared, but I'm ready for the light. The light, the light, the light -- I'm ready for the light. I don't know what lies ahead once we crest the sunset hill. But it's gotta be better than what we've had, gotta be better than standing still. I can hear the whistle blowing so drop your coat and run. You won't need it where we're going somewhere west of the sun. I'm scared, but I'm ready for the light. I'm scared, but I'm ready for the light. The light, the light, the light -- I'm ready for the light.
