… isn’t that hard to resist?
I have felt the pull of that siren song before. (And as a direct response copywriter, I’ve often written from that point of view: it’s a powerful way to make a sale.)
When I’ve yearned for that promise of certainty, I’ve struggled to remain skeptical, check their bona fides, and inspect the fine print. Because I want them to be right.
And so do they.
There is, of course, a bright side to teachers of change. And I think a healthy dose of critical thought and moderation can help you filter their light onto your path.
But this song is about the dark side.
The first melody I wrote was lively, jaunty, a little wink-of-the-eye … but it felt a little too on-the-nose.
So I dabbled with some minor chords and came up with this melody, which feels more haunting. I think it serves the song better.
