Behind the Song
The melody in the “oooh’s” came to me a long time ago, and I recorded them. I forgot about it eventually. Didn’t have a lyric to go with it.
But who needs lyrics? I decided to just add sounds to it.
Not only that: make that the chorus.
I like it as a “hook.” But do you think it needs a lyrical chorus?
I wrote the verses to suggest a scene, rather than paint it explicitly. A scene of someone watching a loved one who is pained by the past. But a past that is actually in the past, that they’ve moved on from … but occasionally, they sink into those memories.
Video note: I’m experimenting with a new recording technique. I pre-record the guitar accomponiament and play it back while I sing in the video. What do you think?

Lyrics
Oooooh ooooh ooooh oooooh (repeat) You were talking about some kind of grace when the shadow of pain fell across your face I reached out to cup your tiny hands some things a man can't understand. Oooooh ooooh ooooh oooooh (repeat) I was climbing our bent Madrona tree You were laughing of what I could not see I clipped a branch long, straight, and true I carved it up just for you Let's bake an apple pie for two something tart, something sweet you kneed the dough, I'll mix the spice sometimes you need a little treat Oooooh ooooh ooooh oooooh (repeat) You were watching a rabbit in the sun Back legs twitching, gearing up to run I was like that rabbit said the lines drawn on your face never a rest from the chase Oooooh ooooh ooooh oooooh (repeat)
