Behind the Song
This song came as the title and the idea all at once. I was thinking how some women stay too long with a guy out of a sense of duty, long past the time any duty has been well and truly paid.
I quickly sketched out some lyrics, some of which I wasn’t happy with. I let the song sit in the back of my head for a few weeks, then hashed out the lyrics you hear today.

Lyrics
A woman who is strong stays the course and does no wrong she keeps the home-fires burning now she don't slip and she don't stray she just keeps working every day and never listens to her heart's yearning but there's something you should know there's nothing more you owe You were only twenty-two when he showed you what to do how to keep a weather-eye out for his squalls he bought you a dress and he gave you a ring he didn't take much, just everything he keeps you for a landing when he falls and you know you'll never get a rest when every moment is a test It's not too late to leave him your life has still got meaning you're more than just some walking man's wife It's not too late to leave him whatever god you believe in won't cast you in the dark for loving life it's not too late to leave him tonight So what you're fifty-four a few decades lost, but you've got more don't you think by now you've given him enough? so pack your bags and step outside my car is running, you've got a ride I'll take you where life won't be so dammed tough let someone else give it's time for you to live It's not too late to leave him your life has still got meaning you're more than just some walking man's wife It's not too late to leave him whatever god you believe in won't cast you in the dark for loving life it's not too late to leave him tonight
