Behind the Song
I was playing the chords to “Let It Be,” singing the classic song, and then I began to riff, improvise around it. I imagined I was singing to a girl I was wooing, back in my wooing days.
The phrase “nervous pride” came to me, and I liked the juxtaposition of those two elements. A picture of a person began to form, an independent, quirky, artsy lady who nonetheless felt a lotta fear. Not that it would stop her.
The narrator in the song digs this.

Lyrics
Sweet Melina, in your homemade dress I've got a secret that you might have guessed. When I see you shaking with your nervous pride I just wanna make you mine. But I know it'll take some time just a little bit of time a little bit of time just a little time Sweet Melina, take a walk in my mile I'll show you vistas that'll make you smile. Oh can't you see your every step is a prayer I just wanna stop and stare. But I know it'll take some time just a little bit of time a little bit of time just a little time I'm not here to put your worries to rest take that weight off your chest make you tough You're not my project, not some damsel to save I can see that you're brave enough Sweet Melina, you tell me it's late and you don't wanna hear me talk of fate but sweet Melina, instead of good-bye why don't we give it a try? It'll just take some time just a little bit of time a little bit of time just a little time
