Behind the Song
I wash washing dishes, listening to Men At Work’s “Down By the Sea” — from their classic album that my family and I listened to on cassette over and over again on a trip to Port Townsend when I was in my short pants — when this song idea came to me. I jotted it down in about 5 minutes, and (maybe later?) added a “scratchy” kind of strumming in which the heal of my palm rubs against the strings.
The first verse remains pretty much the same, but I reworded the next verses a little bit and reordered them.

Lyrics
Got a song in my pocket shaking like a rocket buzzing like a bee straining to get free puts a motion in my brain like a runaway train wanna dance, wanna move to the wild woman's groove Rock on, rock on, rock on Rock on, rock on, rock on Gotta get me to the sea I hear that's where you're free catch a rising wave where there's no one left to save and if I wash up on some shore beat a path to a friendly door and sing a silver tune so they know I bring the moon Rock on, rock on, rock on Rock on, rock on, rock on Rock on, rock on, rock on Rock on, rock on, rock on Spinning into Saturn sailing into voids lose my way, gonna hitch a ride on a wayward asteroid Got a song in my pocket shaking like a rocket buzzing like a bee straining to get free Rock on, rock on, rock on Rock on, rock on, rock on Rock on, rock on, rock on Rock on, rock on, rock on
